When work ramps up, school calendars collide, and ski-trip planning begins, it can be challenging to plan out fall vaccines in a way that feels simple and low-stress. Most patients want clear guidance on what to get, when to get it, and how to avoid stacked side effects. This guide outlines a straightforward plan for flu, RSV, and COVID-19, ensuring your protection is in place before Colorado's respiratory season begins.

We are here to help you create a personalized vaccine calendar, answer your questions via telehealth, and even assist you in scheduling with your preferred pharmacy or health system, ensuring a seamless process.

What matters most this fall

  • Flu protection is seasonal. For most adults, September and October are the optimal times, as immunity is active before flu activity begins to rise. If you miss that window, get vaccinated as soon as you can.

  • RSV vaccination is a single dose for eligible adults, not an annual series. The best window for first-time recipients is late summer through early fall. If you already received RSV in a prior season, you are considered complete for now unless guidance changes.

  • COVID-19 vaccine guidance can shift from year to year. Eligibility, product availability, and timing are updated periodically throughout the year. We will confirm your current eligibility and assist you in booking at a nearby site.

If you are unsure whether you qualify for RSV or COVID based on age, medical conditions, or prior infection, we can review your chart and give a clear yes or no before you make an appointment.

Who needs which shots

Flu vaccine

Recommended annually for individuals 6 months and older. Adults often choose September or October for convenience and durability. If travel, caregiving, or a busy stretch gets in the way, get it at your first opportunity. Flu circulates well into spring, so later is still better than never.

RSV vaccine

A one-time dose is recommended for adults who meet the criteria. Adults 75 and older are broadly eligible. Adults 50 to 74 may be eligible based on risk factors such as chronic heart or lung disease, immunocompromise, or other conditions that raise the risk of severe RSV. If you received RSV last season, you are generally already covered for this year.

COVID-19 vaccine

Each fall, an updated vaccine and eligibility rules are introduced. Older adults and those with risk factors are usually prioritized. Recent infection and prior vaccination can influence timing. We will confirm your current options and identify nearby sites with supply.

Can you combine vaccines in one visit to the pharmacy?

Often, yes. Many pharmacies can administer more than one vaccine during the same appointment. Using separate injection sites can reduce soreness. If you prefer to space them to track reactions or avoid a sore arm on a workday, there is no required waiting period between these vaccines. A practical approach is to take one per week for two or three weeks if your schedule allows.

Side effect smart moves

  • Use different arms when getting two shots the same day.

  • Enjoy a light evening and stay hydrated.

  • Plan gentle movement the next day. Most reactions are mild and short-lived.

A simple timing ladder for Denver patients

Use this as a flexible template. We will tailor it to your eligibility, travel plans, and personal schedule, then book you at the pharmacy or healthcare system of your choice.

Step 1: Lock in flu by the end of October.

Schedule your in-office flu shot with us in September or October so immunity is active before flu activity rises. If you have an annual exam or a telehealth check-in, we will finalize your plan and place any necessary documentation in the portal.

Step 2: Add RSV if you qualify and have not had it.

If you are 75 or older, schedule RSV in late summer or early fall. If you are 50 to 74 and have qualifying conditions, use the same window. Pair it with your flu visit, or separate it by one to two weeks if you are sensitive to side effects. Remember, RSV is one and done for now.

Step 3: Schedule a COVID-19 vaccine if you are eligible this season.

If you qualify, you can receive the COVID vaccine and the flu vaccine at the same appointment or separately, up to a week apart. If you have recently had COVID, timing decisions depend on your risk and local activity levels. We will advise during your planning call.

If you prefer slow and steady:

Week 1: Flu

Week 2: RSV if eligible

Week 3: COVID if eligible

If you prefer one-and-done:

Book a single pharmacy visit and receive the flu vaccine plus either RSV or COVID-19 if you are due. Save the third for a short follow-up appointment.

  • Post-shot check-ins. If you feel unwell after receiving a vaccine or are unsure about a potential reaction, please message us. We will advise on home care and when to seek an in-person evaluation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get all three in one day if I am eligible?

Many pharmacies can administer multiple vaccines during a single appointment. Expect a higher chance of temporary local reactions. If you prefer to space them, a week between shots is a simple approach, and there is no required interval.

What if I have a big presentation or travel coming up?

Avoid stacking vaccines the day before a high-stakes event. Take one per week over two or three weeks. If you need faster protection, book a single visit and plan a low-key evening.

I have a complex medical history. How do I know what is right for me?

Schedule a brief telehealth consult. We will review your chart, medications, and prior reactions, then provide a clear plan and book your appointments with an external site.
